My son once again this year got to go to the spelling bee. I'm never sure what to call it. The next level up would have been statewide but because they are private schools, they aren't really in districts per se and regions are usually bigger than states. I guess it would be the equivalent of a district spelling bee though. Each school can send two representatives from each grade involved. For some reason this year, ours went to the SCISA spelling bee (South Carolina Independent Schools Assoc. -- at least I think that's what it stands for) instead of the one we usually go to which is the ACSI (Assoc. of Christian Schools International -- once again, I think that's what it stands for). All I usually hope for is that he won't miss the first word he's given. I got my wish. Unfortunately, he went out in the second round.
This child of mine is very 'by the rules' about such things and he always goes back to the spelling rule which, of course, in the English language, means absolutely nothing. That's what seems to get him every time. One year, he missed 'apt' by spelling it a-p-p-e-d. This year it was 'reckless' which he added a 'w' to the beginning of.But there's always next year. And who else can say they regularly go to the 'district' spelling bee for their school. He has every year since 1st grade if memory serves.
Don't be too 'wreckless' today. :)
