Yesterday, we got to take part in making a gift to a foster family in need. Hubby was part of the delivery team too. Hearing those young boys' excitement over the things they were receiving made his evening.
James 1:27 says, "Pure and genuine religion
in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in
their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you."
I don't know that these children were necessarily orphans, but they were living with substitutes for parents. Substitutes that no doubt cared about them and took good care of them, but substitutes nonetheless.
I think God has a heart for those who are defenseless and vulnerable. And I believe that it makes Him smile when we remember them because, for the most part, our society tends to forget that they exist. His gift to us for remembering is the smile it puts on our own faces.
I thank my Father for every opportunity He wants to throw our way to help. And therefore participate in "pure and genuine religion."
