Boys

If you have a son and ever want to have a sandbox, trust me on this and just buy the frame. Don't buy the sand. To fill it, all you'll need to do is have your son dump his shoes there every night and it will be ready to go in no time.

I've probably got half the school playground in my backyard at least. I literally just picked up the Dude's empty hamper and heard the skitter of sand across the bottom inside. And the Chick has made it very clear that he is not to change clothes or shoes in the bathroom because she's sick of stepping on sand every time she gets out of the shower.

I don't really understand this tendency to carry home sand and dirt in your shoes and clothes. I am sure it is a boy thing. It must be some magnetic force that causes the sand to cling to a boy until he returns to home base. I just don't get it.

If the Dude were to spend the entire day in a library somewhere and be instantly transported back into his room, there would still be sand in his shoes. I give up.

Short of making him stand outside while I vacuum him down, I don't know how to avoid having sand where ever he is.

However, I do understand now why the school has to replace their playground sand every couple of years. Every male student carries it home with them.

My ds is now getting undressed in the garage before coming inside, given the amount of sand and dirt in his clothes and shoes. Of course he is only 3 so this is ok!!

I'm glad to know my kids are normal. The girls carry in sand, but they are little. I don't think the boys are going to grow out of it for a long, long time.
