The Rugrat's First State Fair

Every year, we go to the State Fair when it comes around. Even last year, when Hubby had gone ahead to Oklahoma and life was it's own roller coaster ride, we went to the State Fair. This year was no exception -- even though everything looked completely different and had different names. On Monday, it was kid's day. In addition to getting kids who were 12th grade and under in free, Sanctus Real was the band playing that evening. So Hubby came home a little early and we went.

The Rugrat didn't know what we were doing but she was excited anyway.

And, of course, one of Hubby's favorite Fair activities: figure out what the newest, grossest food there is (not that he wanted to try any of it).

Dude actually did eat a chocolate dipped corn dog. The fact that he didn't need any Pepto that night tells you just how much younger his tummy is than ours. I think we all agreed that the winner this year was the Fried Turkey Nads (not to be crude but that's what it was called). Hubby forgot to get a picture of that one.

I was waiting to see how the Rugrat would take the rides. I really wasn't sure but I've decided to adopt the same approach that I had with Chick and Dude. When they were very young, someone told me that children take their cue from you (the parent). And, except for with doctors, it seems to be the case with Rugrat too. If I'm excited, she gets excited. If I'm nervous or upset, she gets that way too.

So, we decided to try out the carousel. She had no problem sitting on the horse at all. She just sat there and talked to me about it while we waited for it to start.

Then, the thing started up. She looked at me a little startled, threw her head back, and giggled. She loved it and pretty much laughed the entire way around.

When it suddenly stopped, she looked over at me again but this time her face fell. I think she was deciding whether or not to cry. She went with, "More, again." I told her we'd have to let someone else take their turn but we could ride something else. She accepted that with grace and off we went to find more rides.

This was the first one she rode alone.

She and the Chick went on this one together. Apparently, she was also a big fan of spinning.

Her last ride was the balloons. We had suggested she ride it earlier but it was shut down. Given the choice later between the carousel (horses) or balloons, she chose the balloons.

Of course, in between all that was a fair food dinner, a concert, a hypnotist show and several exhibits. Our first Oklahoma fair was a fun time.

And, I feel fairly safe saying it was the Rugrat's first state fair. She was pretty sad that we were leaving at the end of the night. I know she'll be looking forward to the fair next fall when it comes around.
