I was excited a few days ago to find some actual diaper covers at the thrift store. With my son, we used cloth diapers and I pretty quickly decided that I LOVED them. Especially when I use them with diaper covers. Diaper covers are essentially the outside of the diaper complete with velcro. When you have one, you can basically use the diaper itself as a liner. No pins. No plastic pants. No diaper rash. No outrageous amount of money going straight from your pocket into the landfill. And quite frankly, no super stink and no little bugs like with disposables. The only problem with diaper covers is the expense. They run about 12 bucks a piece. We had probably 10 or so with my son, although they mostly came from consignment shops in San Diego. We probably paid between 3 to 6 dollars each for them although I don't claim to have a perfect memory after nearly 9 years. You see, San Diego has one truly annoying trait. Everything is so ridiculously expensive that people pretty much buy everything from thrift stores and consignment shops. What that means for the consumer is that the value of every thing goes way up in the shop owners/yard salespersons' eyes. So what I can find here for 65 cents would have been 3 bucks there. Or more. Everything truly is more expensive in San Diego.
The big price tag for these two was 99 cents each. Definately an improvement. Now I just want the chance to use them.
