Monday's Menu

I have a very full day so today's recipe is a quick one but it is all summertime. Lemonade conjures images of sitting on a porch swing enjoying a lazy day. But most people think you need a mix of some sort to make it. It is sooooo easy to make.

What's more, when you make your own, you don't have to worry about preservatives or artificial colors or flavoring. It's just real stuff from your own kitchen. I'm sure you could substitute Splenda or the appropriate amount of some other sweetener for the sugar, but, there again, you still would know exactly what was in it.

The secret to lemonade is to use equal amounts sugar and lemon juice. I have often thought of using another juice rather than lemon but you would have to adjust the sugar as most juices are sweet not tart. You can also make it into flavored lemonade by playing with it a little so have fun.

Basic Lemonade

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup lemon juice
1 quart water

Mix together well, making sure sugar is completely dissolved. Chill.

Jazz it up: add fruit pieces or stir in fruit juice enough to flavor the lemonade.
