Upward and Onward

This morning, we will be spending time doing one of Dude's most favorite things -- shopping for pants. Oh, yeah. He's stoked!

Not.

While he has a couple of more recently purchased pairs, not a single pair of his jeans is newly acquired. He has had all of them for several years now. And you can tell it.

Don't get me wrong. It's not that they are falling apart at the seams or anything. What gives him away are the worn through places at the backs of his ankles. You see, he was rather chunky a few years ago. And short.

Meaning he wore a larger size waist from the boys section but it was hard to find jeans that were short enough for him not to be walking on the backs of his pants legs. Gradually, the friction of his shoes on one side and the concrete/asphalt/floor on the other wore the fabric through about an inch above the hem where it looped down over his shoe and got dragged under.

But then, suddenly, he began to shoot up. He remained basically the same waist size but quickly went from being the shortest one in the house to taller than everyone except Hubby. As his legs began to fit in the jeans by length, those worn through places began to show. A lot. And then he didn't stop.

Now he has what we lovingly referred to, when I was growing up, as 'high waters.' His most recent pants were purchased in the men's section and I'm really not looking forward to sifting through there for jeans. The boy's section is pretty easy to deal with. The men's... well, it's significantly larger.

Nonetheless, it has to be done. And better a weekday than a weekend. So pray for us.

Or just me, if you like. Surly teenage boy is not my favorite morning activity.
