Leadership

Dude received more merit badges at the last Court of Honor at his troop meeting. I believe that Hubby has figured that once he finishes the ones he has started, he will have enough to meet Eagle requirements. It takes a little more than that but that's a pretty significant step.

I have been impressed to note the way he deals with the younger scouts. A lot of the older boys tend to do their own thing which forces the newer kids to sort of find their own way and niche. He, on the other hand, has made an effort to include them and even requested to be in their patrol because he feels that an older scout should be there to help them.

As a result, they really seem to look up to him and listen to him. Though he's fairly quiet many places, his leadership skills really show at the troop. Hubby said that, in getting ready for the Court of Honor, he would tell them what needed to be done and assign a boy to take care of that. They kept coming back to him for more instruction.

From what he's told me about camp, it sounds like he emerged as a leader there too. And it's not that he actively seeks to be. He just steps up to get things done. I admit to being really proud of that about him. True leaders do often tend to emerge from the crowd. And he's a good leader to boot.

Who knows? Maybe I have a future president in my house.
