Loss and Gain

In April, we lost our sweet old soul pup, Yogi.

Hubby knows me well enough to know that I need a dog around  and he knew I was hurting pretty bad after losing Yogi. So he had quietly started doing some research before I ever even thought about another dog.

One of the breeds he found and thought might be a good fit for us was a miniature poodle  or one of the many mixes with them. Miniature poodles are known to be quite intelligent and have a strong desire to please their people. It's a shame so many people equate them with fru-fru hairstyles and snobby owners.

I was, frankly, a little shocked by this particular breed being acceptable to him because for all of the 28 years we've been married and the 4 years we dated, he made his disdain for miniature poodles well known whenever it came up.  Turns out it was based entirely on the fru-fru hairstyles and snobby owners. Mind, not that I cared one way or the other about poodles, but he had made his opinion clear over the years.

In May, we happened across this little doll. And  it was one of those kind of accidental mentioning that someone knew someone who bred dogs and you can check to see if her dog is having puppies soon things.

She,  as it happened, currently had three maltipoo (half Maltese and half Miniature Poodle) puppies that were turning 8 weeks old. This little girl pup caught our eye so off we went that weekend to take a look.

And we named her Trixie on the way home.  The poodle part is living up to the hype so far. She is smart and quick. She seems to want to please us even if she is still a bit timid after living a quiet country life up until she came to us. We all adore her. She wasn't the least afraid of Irene despite being outweighed by about 43 pounds and missed her terribly when Chick was finally able to move into her own place near her new job last month. Taking Irene with her. Don't worry, they visit frequently.

I still miss my Yogi Bear a lot.  There's something about being loved like that by another creature you never forget. Especially when you never saw it coming in the first place.

Trixie has definitely found a place in our hearts though. And, in her sweet, little, frisky, fun-loving way, she's healing the broken parts too.
