Summer Sew Palooza

Well, school has officially ended which means, in our household, SUMMER IS HERE!

As usual, the first thing I had to do was start sewing. Last week, I measured Rugrat. She came to 5 foot 3 inches. That means the reason I have been looking her in the eye lately is that I only have half an inch on her. The way she's been eating lately, I'm guessing that she'll be taller than me in about a week and a half because a growth spurt is definitely on the horizon.

So, my annual summer sew palooza has begun. The worst part of any sewing anything is this though.

Ironing is not my favorite in any way and ironing yards of fabric really doesn't float my boat. But at least one of the worst things is over at the beginning.

First project up was this comfy play dress in a buttery soft knit. She immediately talked about wearing it the next day.

Next up was a project for me with some fabric I had bought on clearance last year but never used. After I finally decided on a pattern, I started in. I had used this printable pattern on a dress for Chick but found it rather difficult to work with in the sizing so I made sure to use my specific measurements for the sizing this time.

Lots of good it did me though. I got it put together and found I had a six inch overhang on the bodice. I was pretty frustrated at that time so I hung it up and decided to take a break from it.

Much to my family's delight, I instead used my time and made this for dessert that night.

On to the next project.

One of my problems has been that Rugrat managed to outgrow (along with her clothes) most of the patterns I had for her. So I am hoping that some place puts them on sale this next week and trying to make do with the few I had left. Of course, part of the reason I try to sew a lot each summer is, in addition to giving my tall, skinny girl some decent clothes, to use up a lot of my fabric stash. Even when I specifically try not to add to it, it seems to grow a little bit.

Not that Rugrat minds getting a bunch of new clothes. :)
