Summer Sew Continued

After taking a little break, I added a couple more items. I  absolutely love this fabric and have ever since I bought it.  Initially, I made myself a high-low skirt but I really didn't like it  much. In fact, I think I wore it once and then set it back on the sewing table. And it has literally been sitting there for months. I  had thought I might use it for something for Rugrat but, like I said, I really love the fabric.

So, I pulled it out determined to figure out what I might like it as. Turns out I just needed a different style of skirt.

I am fairly certain that I could have been happy born a decade earlier if need be. Peasant blouses and tiered skirts are some of my favorite clothes. Even though this wasn't a real tiered skirt -- more like a big ruffle -- the pattern was primarily for them and this was one option. Because I was cutting down the skirt I had already made, I didn't even have to redo the waistband or zipper. Hey, hey.

Next up was a dress for Rugrat. I was wandering around a store and found some pre-cut fabrics.  This knit was one of them. This was also the first time I used a women's size pattern for her (even if it was a size extra small). She loves it!

The original pattern would have dragged the floor but when I had her try it on for fit, she begged me to leave it long. I still cut about 6 inches off. It hits just above her ankle. Although it's hard to tell that in the picture because of her favorite feature  -- the pockets. She thanked me at least three times for putting pockets in it. Thinking about it, I guess most girl's dresses don't have pockets so I suppose I can see why she was so happy about them. Unfortunately, it also meant she kept pushing her hands in them and pulling on the dress until I told her to stop or she'd stretch it out of shape and not be able to wear it.

She couldn't wait to wear it to church the next day. And ended up keeping it on all day because it was so comfortable. I think I'll call that one a success. :)
