We took a trip to my mom's lake house again and introduced the Rugrat to the lake. She decided that she very much liked the jet skis. Most of the pictures we took had her looking like she had tasted something bad.
But every time I asked her if she wanted to go back to the 'boat' or ride some more, the answer was always 'more.'
She even pointed a few times, telling me 'over there.' The life vest was the bane of her existence while we were out but she willingly put it on to ride.
This smudge-y picture is probably the only one where you can see her laughing while we were riding.
Right before we left, I asked her if she wanted to go ride again, and she repeated "ride" while jumping up from where she was basking in adult attention and came right to me to get her life vest on.
The next day, Chick and Dude went swimming in the positively frigid (at least to us old people) water and kept trying to talk us into jumping in too. We were all curious to see how she would do with the water. I assumed (and so did most of the rest of us) that as soon she stuck her legs into the cold water, she'd be done. But she kept asking to "touch it" - "water" so we were unsure.
Finally, being the awesome mother that I am, I subjected myself (slowly -- at least until I ran out of ladder on the side of the party barge) to the ice water. Then her aunt and dad helped her step down on the ladder, and when she didn't scream, into the water where she was perfectly happy.
She kept her hand looped through one of the straps of my life vest holding on but she was having a blast. The temperature didn't bother her at all. She even looked at me grinning once and said "cold" with a little fake shiver to go with it.
I am really amazed at how far she's come. I don't think she would have been willing to try any of that without throwing a massive fit when we brought her home. I'd like to think that the trust we've been trying so hard to inspire is not only there but even more in place than I had hoped for. Little things like that happening this weekend make me think so.

This is such a great post!
I am so happy that Emily is adjusting so well from the timid girl we met in China. If you are ever back in Charleston, please let us know!
Erin
You guys are some of the few who actually know just how timid. :) We'll definitely get together when we come for a visit!
