I found a recipe recently in the one and only magazine I receive and decided to give it a try. We liked it well enough that I made it again to take to my Bunko Christmas party last week.
If you don't typically keep some of these asian sauces on hand, it might be a little more difficult to make these but, in my version, I left out at least one from the original recipe that I never have and it was still good. If you would like to take a look at the original recipe, you can find it here.
Enjoy!
Asian Meatballs
1 1/2 lbs. ground pork
1/4 teaspoon ginger
1/2 small onion, finely chopped
approx. 1 Tablespoon garlic, finely chopped
2 Tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
1/2 cup fresh bread crumbs
1 large egg, beaten
Sauce:
approx. 1 Tablespoon garlic, finely chopped
2 Tablespoons soy sauce
1/4 teaspoon ginger
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
1/2 cup sweet and sour sauce
1/4 cup hoisin sauce
1/4 cup chicken broth
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Mist a large baking sheet with sides with cooking spray. In a large bowl, combine all meatball ingredients and mix thoroughly. Shape with wet hands into balls about 1 1/4 inch in diameter. Place on baking sheet and bake about 20 minutes.
In a large bowl, combine sauce ingredients. Mix well. Place meatballs in slow cooker and pour sauce over them. Very gently, stir to coat meatballs. Cover and cook on low for 4 hours. Serve warm.
