Shooting at Deer

We once again made our way to the state of my birth this Christmas. It was a lot of fun as always but it is also always nice to get home and back to the routine. One neat thing happened while we were visiting. My mother-in-law has a home in the country (so to speak) and she gets all manner of wildlife in her yard at various times. One day we were chatting in the kitchen when four deer walked up. This isn't a new thing, mind you, but it is always neat to see them. I couldn't go outside to get a better picture so this is the shot that my little zoom through the kitchen window got. The garden they were attempting to check out is several yards from the back of the house so the picture isn't that great. But see if you can make them out.The irony of this is that while I was 'shooting' deer out my mother-in-law's kitchen window, my brother-in-law was sitting out in little better than a box with a lid in a tree, freezing, and waiting for his chance to shoot a deer. He didn't get that chance and we had to get our dinner the next day at the local pizza/convenience store.
We had a lot of visitors while we were down there. We always cause a buzz when we come around. (Ha!) Apparently the neighbor's cows like to test the 'grass is always greener' idea on occasion and come to graze in her yard. That was a new experience for our dogs though. Nipper just about did have a cow but we wouldn't let her out so she could attempt it. Rocky was just flabbergasted.
If you look closely, you can see the cows he 's looking at. I think he wanted to go out there but couldn't decide for sure if it was a good idea. So instead he watched.

And watched. Unfortunately, we didn't get to have steaks for dinner either. Oh, well. We had fun anyway.
