The Chick came back to report that her school chess team placed fourth. There were eight schools participating (apparently) at this particular competition.

Considering that this is the first year for a chess team at her school AND this was their first competition, I think that was pretty darn good! Especially taking into account that they only lost 3rd place by one point.

The Chick won two of her five matches. She seemed to feel really good about that. I found out later that the high school level competition just has a pool of all the ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth graders. They are randomly chosen and matched so at the very least she was playing another ninth grader and, worst case, a senior.

I'm really proud of her. I think it was awesome that she got to go and that she did so well. I can't wait to see how well she'll do at her next one.
