Earning His Way

What you see below is the accumulation of a few years' work in Scouting. This is Dude's sash currently (I stress currently because he is waiting to receive a couple more badges so he's actually earned more than what is on it).

The first one was a 'limited edition' badge that can not be earned now -- one they brought back for their anniversary year only. He is pretty proud of that one. That's why he wanted it first. Of the 21 badges that you must earn to reach Eagle, 12 are specifically required for Eagle scout. Of the ones he has earned above, the ones circled in silver are Eagle required.

Scouting was something we started on a fluke when he was in 3rd or 4th grade and somehow have continued with. Now that he is a boy scout and no longer a cub, I thought he might lose interest but he is serious about making it to Eagle. He is right now only two levels away.

And I think he'll make it. He has until age 18 to get it done. A lot can happen in 5 years but he seems motivated.

And I'm really proud of him for doing as well as he has. I was never interested in anything like that and certainly not energetic enough to put in the time to do it. So I'll be rooting him on all the way.
