My Making Day

I recently was reading a series on one of my new favorite blogs that took lessons from the Little House series.  One of the things she pulled from one of them was related to Ma's household schedule:

Wash on Monday,
Iron on Tuesday,
Mend on Wednesday,
Churn on Thursday,
Clean on Friday,
Bake on Saturday,
Rest on Sunday.

She pointed out that it only makes sense to have a schedule for running your household.

Now I already have my laundry schedule (Monday, Thursday, Saturday if you'd like to know). I have no need for a day to iron (thank you God) nor do I usually need a lot of time to mend or churn.

But it did occur  to me that I needed to take a day once a week for making the things I have to make on a regular basis -- those things that I have begun making so we aren't eating chemicals and additives. Having to make those things on the day I need them or when they run out suddenly can be stressful if the day is particularly busy.

Not all of it is baking though. So I guess what I need is a "making" day. Mondays are my day off for certain every week. The other day I have off on a regular basis is rotating every other week.

So, I have tentatively decided to make Mondays my "making" day. That also works well because I usually make out a menu for the week on Sunday.

This past Monday, for instance, my list was:

Granola (which I will probably make at least twice more this week)
Mayo (trying it out)
Tortillas (double batch -- for our tacos later that week and lunch wraps)

Knowing these things were made already relieved some of the work and stress of trying to stay on top of it all.

I also plan to make my list of things to be made alongside my menu. I'm thinking, however, that granola and wheat crackers will probably be on it every week.

And that I may just have to figure out how to make a double or triple batch of the granola if I only want to make it once a week.

Your schedule looks pretty full to me:) Being a mom and a wife is the busiest job ever. On top of that, you are actually making your own tortilla and mayo, impressive.
