What's Growin' Wednesday

What a difference a week makes! Well, about 10-12 days. This spreading monstrosity is what has become of my little watermelon plant. It's going right on out of the fence in a couple places and intends to keep going I think.

I'll have to move it right back so Hubby can mow the grass though. Too bad little watermelon. While it has tons of flowers on it, they are all male so no watermelons yet. Hopefully, I'll be getting a female flower or two soon.

My corn, on the other hand, has officially got corn growing on it as of Sunday.

Those little silks poking out are the beginnings. Every time I go out, I have run my hand across the tassel at the top and then shaken it off over the silks in an effort to hand pollinate it and encourage some nice full cobs.

However, I'm really just excited to see some corn growing.

A couple of weeks ago, I posted a picture claiming that my bush beans were doing really well. So, there's a reason you mark some plants when you plant them. That was actually my cucumber plants. I guess the bush beans didn't make it. I would have sworn they were in that spot.

Luckily, I found some of these reusable tags at Lowe's for next year. Amazon has a better price so I plan to get more from there but I had never seen any before. So now I must apologize to my cucumbers.

Well, never mind. I guess they forgave me. I noticed my first female flower on it Monday. Woo hoo. You can see the cucumber there behind the flower (unlike the male flowers which just have a stem).

So now I have a smile on my face and visions of corn on the cob and pickles. I hope your day is as fruitful.
