One of the things that has amazed me about this garden has been learning just how quickly (or slowly) things grow.
The watermelon, in particular, has been quite eye-opening. Even Hubby, whose stepfather grew watermelons and all kinds of other melons, has been amazed at how quickly the little buggar has grown.
I mean, Hubby probably wasn't wandering out to the garden as a little boy to check things. In all likelihood, he tried to stay as far away as he could until he was sent to weed it.
On Saturday, this is the picture I took of it.
In just four days. Yikes. The smaller one on a nearby vine has been exhibiting pretty much the same growth rate so I'm assuming it is NOT due to toxic waste running just under our backyard garden fence line.
On the other hand some other things are right there, just about ready to pick, and it seems as if they have been for a week.
Perhaps the lesson to learn in gardening is patience.
But whoever said I wanted to learn that!
