Wedding Funny (Part 2)

I wanted to share a funny about the wedding yesterday but I wasn't planning on writing my novel so soon so I decided to wait until today. As I mentioned, my brother officiated at my mom's wedding. In fact, if you noticed from the pictures, we were almost all involved in one way or another. My mom kept telling everyone it was a "family affair."

Although I don't think my mom or John intended it to look that way, I like to think that our presence there, up front, with the two of them was a louder voice of our support than anything we could have said to the nearly 500 witnesses there.

Unfortunately, being the one who has to do most of the talking at your mom's wedding made my brother more than a little nervous once the ceremony began. And my brother and his wife attend a different local congregation than the one Mom does so he didn't really know a lot of the congregation. But then, he calmed down and forgot about everyone else. You could tell as he began to relax and become more comfortable -- surrounded by his family and two best friends as he was probably helped.

When he came to the part with the rings and the vows, he was feeling himself again I think. After he had John repeat the vows, he watched as Mom turned to me and took the ring then turned back again. Then he said, "Mom, place the ring on John's finger and repeat after me." I caught the quiet chuckle from our extended family behind us but I don't know if he did right then.

Later, one of my cousins told us that someone sitting behind them said, bewildered, "Did the preacher just call her Mom?" I laughed about that for a while. Then when my brother heard it, I laughed with him too.

My brother likes to joke that, now, he has married both his cousin and his mom. I told you we were from Arkansas.
