About a couple weeks ago, I planted some tomato, pea, green been, and basil seeds. But I wasn't expecting anything to show for a few weeks.
I left Friday morning for Ladies Retreat. When I left, one tomato plant had shown it's little head and I could see one pea plant bowed as it pulled its little head from the dirt. When I got back on Sunday, this is what greeted me.
If you enlarge it and look closely, you may even be able to see the one basil plant that had popped up.
By today, the one green bean plant that is just beginning to emerge here has already made it out of the dirt and is opening his leaves. The only one that has yet to show any sign of life is one tomato plant, one green bean plant and two basil plants. I plan to grow more seedlings but I thought I'd start with these.
And before you laugh at my containers, isn't that recycling at its best? Re-use. Plus, I read that it is best to plant tomato plants in tall containers that would encourage it to grow long roots. I have always planted them in the short stubby things they sell so I'm curious to see if this makes a difference.
