Miscellany

We have a busy couple of days to end our week.

The biggest thing was that, as of yesterday, the Chick became a working girl. She applied for a position at one of the local fast food joints and got it. Yesterday was her first day. We thought she would just be doing paperwork, etc. but instead she ended up putting in a 10 hour day working the drive through. I'm thinking maybe it was the last week for the pay period and the manager wanted to make sure she had a check. But I don't know. Maybe it was to see how well she could handle everything. That won't be typical of her work hours though or the job won't last. They had suggested she could work a few hours of the lunch rush everyday (since she is home schooled) which would give her time to do school and help them out with a part-timer who didn't have to live on what she makes.

The Chick was beyond excited -- even as she dragged her tired, hungry self into the house. The power of a paycheck is a heady thing.

Today, we will head to Arkansas for the weekend which is another reason they may have tried to fit so much into that one day. She won't be back until Monday.

Of course, that will come after the Rugrat's appointment today with a children's eye doctor. That doesn't mean we will have a scream-free morning. It just means that the doctor will have heard it before.

I don't know if doctors were just uncaring when they treated her or if she picked up on the attitude from someone else in the home she was in, but all we have to do is walk behind that double door and she's pretty much on alert and ready to cry. Something as simple as weighing her will start the wailing and it doesn't really end until I'm carrying her back toward the double doors. So we shall see how it goes.

Have a great weekend!
