Field Trip!!

One of the museums here, we recently found out, has no admission on the first Monday of the month. So, of course, we had to check it out.

It was very hands-on all through the exhibits. It was obviously designed, if not specifically with children in mind, to be very sensory and interactive.

There wasn't a single sign that said not to touch. And, if you know anything about Rugrat, you know she loves to touch.

We just recently studied bones in her Science class so she was all over the skeletons there.

This one was so big it really excited her.

She thought this one was pretty cool too, especially the horns.

They also have a Discovery Center. It WAS designed specifically for children. When we came in, the attendant told me that anything she could reach, she could touch or play with.

There were toys, coloring, games, even a fossil digging area (which she wasn't doing because "it's hard, Momma" ). There were also several aquariums with small creatures.

Apparently, the big stuff really excited her. She oohed and aahed over this guy a few times.

The thing, however, that most excited her was the 'trees' that were scattered throughout some of  the exhibits. They weren't real, just made to look it.

I think it just blew her mind that they had trees inside their building.

While in the first big skeleton room, I noticed a glass elevator going up and down nearby. So when we decided to go to the second floor, I found it.

It is situated so that when you get to the top, you see the top of the skeleton's head.

And it lands just below the grass at his feet. This was just before we disappeared below the 'ground.'

At the end, we stopped by the museum gift shop and she picked out a little purple gemstone on a chain as a souvenir. That was possibly the only thing more exciting than trees inside a building -- bling bling.
