Birthday Goings On

Friday night we had an abbreviated version of a birthday party here. The usual thing is to pick a theme and then go nuts with it -- like our backyard pirate bash from last year for my son. But once they get to double digits, it becomes more of a couple of close friends and the birthday child get to do something special. Dude's choice was a sleepover. One of only two that he has ever had at our home. He invited his select list. One of them wasn't able to come over but asked if Dude could sleep over that night (so in a way he got to have two sleep overs).

Anyway, apparently there is a theme with Dude's birthday parties emerging. I think I have already done two Transformers parties (although my memory isn't perfect) and what kind of cake did I make this time...?

Yes, it's another Transformers cake. I will admit, however, that Hubby picked up the figures from the clearance aisle on a late night run to the store for wrapping paper. So that made the job quite a bit easier.

Hubby even grabbed some sparking candles which, I'm sorry, were just WAY cool. Like having sparklers (about my second favorite firework) on there. And we even used the cardboard pieces from the box (the building and the car on fire).

I thought the theme was appropriate because his first request, a few months ago, for his birthday had to do with the cake. This cake had "more than meets the eye."

Yumm! Ice cream cake. How's that for something in disguise. It was fun. And everyone went home the next day happy and exhausted.

We bribed them with choice of one of the Transformer figures from the cake.
