Update

The Rugrat's appointment went as well as could be expected. She cried, screamed, wailed, and kicked. He didn't even have to touch her to start it all either. The doctor did manage to get about a 10 second look at each eye but not much more.

So it turns out that we'll be making an appointment to take her to a hospital where they will knock her out so that he can get a good look at her eyes and check for things like glaucoma, etc.

He believes she may have small cataracts in each eye but he couldn't look well enough to tell if they were in a position that would affect her vision. After that appointment, he will be able to tell us if surgery of any sort is necessary.

As for the Chick's job, apparently they didn't see the box where she marked 'part-time' on her application. We had to straighten that out when she got her schedule at the beginning of the week. She can't handle 30 hours a week on top of school. Or more. If her schedule is no better next week, she may have to turn in her resignation. She is okay with that but wanted to finish out the week either way. And we'll help her find something else where they don't want to work her to the death.

We did manage to get by the Social Security office to get the Rugrat's name and immigration status changed to the correct things. It was a breeze actually despite my dreading it. A friend of my sister-in-law's who just completed an international adoption didn't fare so well when she went and I was considering dragging every piece of paperwork we had in with me just to be safe.

As it turned out, we just needed the card with her Chinese name, the adoption certificate, and her citizenship papers. Oh, and our id's. We literally didn't even get sat down to wait before we were called and the whole thing probably only took about 15 minutes. I guess God was with us on that one because I didn't expect it to be that easy at all. I was really not looking forward to dealing with that but I am SO glad to have it done.

Now we are just trying to finish out the school semester. And then, summer, glorious summer!
