Insanity Runs in the Family

I have decided that we have an insane dog. Somehow the one puppy we pick it is mentally defective. I have no other explanation. I have searched high and low for his stash of 'uppers' but can find no drugs. He does not have access to refined sugar. So that basically leaves only one option -- something in his brain is misfiring in a bad way. I don't think I've ever known of an animal that will suddenly with no encouragement catapult himself off the couch/bed/wherever and begin madly running in circles around the house. Even Nipper, our older rat terrier, just sits there watching him with a look on her face that clearly says she believes him to be a loon. Further evidence is that while doing this, he suddenly begins running into things. These are not things that have been recently added to our household either. They are sedentary objects that have been there longer than he has. They don't jump out in his path or anything. The other day he ran into a wall. A wall! What is that?! We haven't done any renovating in the four months he's been here. He also managed to bang his head on the bed frame the fourth time he went under the bed the other day on one of his runs. He has slid into the patio door, banged into walls and furniture, attempted to 'ghost walk' through the other animals and inanimate things, and continues to find other ways to attempt to injure himself. Maybe he's suicidal without the depression or something.

And by the way, its not just the adults who think that. Our children believe him to be bereft of any sense or intelligence too. I don't know. I may have to look for the drug stash again. Hmmm.
