Seeing a Rainbow

Yesterday as Hubby was coming home, I was heading out to the grocery store for something I had forgotten for dinner. He told me that at the stop sign I would be able to see a rainbow. It had been raining on and off all day. My initial reaction was something akin to "Whoop-e-da-doo." I didn't really care. I was too busy.

But as I stepped out into the parking lot, I looked up. I could see the whole thing. From where it began, as it arced up, and came back down. It struck me then. When God created the rainbow, it was a symbol of his promise to Noah. Scientists tell us it's just light passing through water drops in the sky. But as I looked up at it, I felt God's promise to me. It was as if He were saying, "It's all right. Everything's going to be okay." And I felt a peace and a hope.

It's not that we had any major concerns right then. Just the same old stuff. And He was telling me that it was going to be okay. The adoption, home school, Daddy, our finances. It was all okay.

When I was thinking about on my way back home, I realized it has been a while since I've seen a rainbow. I honestly can't remember the last time. I wonder if maybe God was saying to some, me included, that He was still here. That's how I felt. He was letting me know that He was still there, that He hadn't forgotten me, and He wouldn't forget me. I don't know of anyone else who would paint the sky to let me know He loved me. Do you?

I think I'll start looking for a few more rainbows. Sometimes I think we miss them because we have the same attitude I did. We're too busy to notice. But maybe it was also because I took them for granted and made them commonplace.

I hope you get to see a few rainbows in your day. If you look for them, I bet you will.

Thanks for this. I love those moments, and I'm pretty sure I let them pass me by far too often.

Jesse could see a full rainbow too, outside of Gerald's. Actually, there were two. One was about half and the other was a complete bow. He was ringing up a customer and looked out the window to see all of his employees walk off. He was like, "What?!" so he followed them and they were all checking out the rainbows on the side of the shop. Pretty cool.
